Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Table

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of characters who will split off from the main group to embark on their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the party knows exactly where to head next after a intense opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The traitor then paid off his debts and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a hostile place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • However, their status as important members in the influential clan could enable the group enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The healer defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them no alternative but to head to Timmony in search of the traitor.

What’s Next?

According to episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Seekers and Planners groups.

Viewers can look forward to discovering which players will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
